Sony Ericsson K610i
Score: 87% When: July 2006 Worth: €300
Read the full article » The K610i is all about balance - the right kinds of features, ease of use and attractive looks. Basics such as voice/video calling and messaging perform with aplomb, while the camera is one of the best we've seen sans autofocus. Sadly, the omission of earphones, insufficient memory and limited music controls make for a poor music proposal out of the box, even though memory card expansion and stereo Bluetooth audio support enables a near-full rectification of this predicament for those willing to pay. LG KG800
Score: 68% When: May 2006 Worth: €500
Read the full article » With the KG800, LG clearly made the decision to keep specifications on the down low in order to bring forward a small, light and supremely stylish handset - although its price tag claims otherwise. Its feature set - including a mediocre camera and music player - compares reasonably well to other slim and fashion phones; its most aggravating fault is the lagging text input, which stands in contrast to its responsive touch-sensitive navigational controls. This is a handset for those who primarily call and text, and want to look good doing it. Read the full article » |

Samsung SGH-D820
Score: 80% When: April 2006 Worth: €450
Read the full article » Add an all-black and sleek design to a slider handset and it'll be a definitive hit - and even more so if you throw in an impressively bright and clear high-resolution screen to act as the viewfinder for a Megapixel camera snapping high-quality stills. Still, its superbly slim form factor has led the handset to make some compromises, including a mediocre navigational pad and battery life. For those who don't mind these slight bumps in the road, however, the Samsung SGH-D820 comes highly recommended. Read the full article » |

Nokia 6131
Score: 80% When: June 2006 Worth: €300
Read the full article » Probably the sleekest Nokia handset to date and obviously inspired by the Motorla RAZR series, the Nokia 6131 springs open at the push of a button to reveal a top-notch, 2.2 inch hi-res display which doubles as a user friendly interface for the decent-quality 1.3 Megapixel camera. Snappy user interface performance as well as a comfortable keypad and navigation layout take the 6131 to mid-range heights, but music lovers should look elsewhere due to the so-so music player, lack of dedicated music controls and an absolute minimum of onboard memory. A microSD card slot is hidden underneath the battery, yet we crave for a bundled USB 2.0 cable and decently-sized memory card for transferring and storing music; battery life is average for a mid-range phone at approximately 2.5 hours of talk time and 5 days of standby. Although sadly lacking 3G, the inclusion of EDGE adds to a highly recommended total for the average Joe at a price tag of €300. Read the full article » |
