This middle-of-the-road clamshell stands out from the crowd with its sleek, backlit OLED external display. Inside the jet-black clamshell you’ll find a solid if relatively modest set of features, including a 65,000-color TFT LCD, a VGA camera, Bluetooth, Sprint PCS Ready Link for push-to-talk chatting, Wireless Backup support for preserving your contacts, and voice calling and memos. Available now from the Sprint, the A640 retails for about $140.

A slim-and-light entry-level clamshell, the 2.9-ounce A420 makes an impression with its trim 0.9-inch profile. The phone lacks a camera and an external display but still manages to pack in voice calling and memos, a speakerphone, a 65,000-color internal TFT LCD, and a standard suite of PIM applications. Look for the A420 to arrive in Sprint's handset lineup in July; pricing details have yet to be released.

Designed specifically for teens, the SCP-2400 clamshell comes with a series of parental controls that let you restrict specific calling and data features. Available in five colors and equipped with a 65,000-color internal LCD and a monochrome external display, the SCP-2400 also includes Sprint PCS Ready Link support for push-to-talk chatting, Wireless Backup for storing address books online, voice dialing and memos, a speakerphone, and built-in GPS. Set for release in July, the handset will cost $180, or $30 with a two-year service agreement.
