HP's latest portable photo printers offer bright LCDs, fast print times, and photo correction options.
Want to print your photos without a PC or a trip to the drugstore? HP’s trio of compact photo printers let you turn your snaps into prints wherever you are. The Photosmart A516, A616, and A716 weigh only 2.6, 3.44, and 3.46 pounds, respectively. All three printers are easily transportable and include a convenient handle for carrying them to the next family reunion or little league game.
The Photosmart A516 is the entry level model. For under $100, you’ll get the ability to fix red eye, sharpen blurred images, and correct color, contrast, and brightness with the push of a button. Other features include a 1.5-inch display, up to 4,800-optimized dpi, 4 x 6-inch, passport, and wallet-sized print options, PictBridge compatibility (to print directly from your camera), memory card slots, and a rated 53-second print time for a 4 x 6-inch print.
HP’s Photosmart A616 offers all of the functions of the A516, but bumps up the LCD to 2.4 inches and adds some new photo options. With the A616, you can print in black and white, sepia, and antique finishes, plus crop and zoom pictures. Photo outputs include 4 x 6, 5 x 7, passport, wallet, and panorama prints as options. The A616 bumps up the print speed to a rated 39 seconds for a 4 x 6-inch print.
Rounding out the lineup is HP’s flagship compact photo printer, the Photosmart A717. All of the features of the A516 and A616 are included, but the LCD is increased to 2.5 inches and an impressive 4GB of internal memory is onboard to store up to 4,000 photos.
Price and availability
The HP Photosmart A516, A616, and A716 will be available in August 2006 and priced at $99, $179, and $249.
