Smartphones aren't the only mobiles that you can tether to your PC for on-the-go Internet access. We found eight compact 3G clamshells that'll get your laptop on the Net while you’re on the road.

Each of the handsets we found support speedy EV-DO networks and have Bluetooth with dial-up networking profiles – all you have to do is pair the phone with your notebook and connect to your carrier's data network. Just make sure to sign up for a flat-rate, all-you-can-eat data plan (PAM, or phone-as-modem, for Sprint, and BroadbandAccess Connect on Verizon Wireless) before you do, or risk getting socked with a massive phone bill thanks to all the data charges.
