Hot on the heels of Vodafone's introduction of the 6234, Nokia starts pummeling store shelves with the 3G-enabled 6233, which is the Finnish maker's most advanced classic phone to date.
Equipped with tri-band GSM and 3G support, the modestly-sized Nokia 6233 measures in at 110 g and 108 x 46 x 18 mm. Despite its size, Nokia has managed to cram in a 2 Megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, for which the high-resolution QVGA display doubles as a viewfinder. The display also features the latest version of Nokia's Series 40 platform, which includes a new Active Standby mode providing rapid access to frequently used applications.
Built around a stainless steel frame, the 6233 also packs dual stereo speakers and a music player supporting AAC and MP3 formats as well as a microSD card slot for memory expansion. Capable of audio and video streaming across 3G networks, the handset includes support for SyncML to enable calendar, contact and to-do data for enterprise users. Bluetooth is also included, offering among other functionality headset and printer connectivity, while a stereo FM radio brings up the rear.
Price and availability
The Nokia 6233 is now widely available across Europe, selling in the €325 range without subscription.

Samsung SGH-Z400
When: June 2006 (Vodafone) - €450
Read the full article » With video calling and 3G support, the slick Z400 makes for a tempting slider, especially if you happen to have a SIM card running on a UMTS network. We were impressed by the phone's top-notch screen, solid call quality and ability to access our POP/IMAP e-mail accounts. However, we wish the phone's messaging interface took full advantage of the generous 2-inch display, and we miss features such as instant messaging and voice calling. Finally, in our tests, the phone stumbled with its relatively weak signal reception. Read the full article » |

Nokia 6280
Score: 67% When: February 2006 Worth: €200 - €400
Read the full article » Nokia’s 6280 is the most capable Nokia Series 40 handset to date, however fails to impress in light of its fierce competition. Its battery life, browsing and video calling capabilities are all of mediocre quality, resulting in an average overall impression as a 3G handset. On the other hand, the upgraded Series 40 user interface and decent 2 Megapixel camera with VGA video recording could very well render the 6280 this year’s ultimate handset for those who favour Nokia handsets. €500 EUR, available throughout Europe.
