In this week's most coveted phones, Nokia's E50 hits shelves; HTC unveils the HSDPA-enabled TyTN business phone; we review the GPS-enabled BenQ-Siemens SXG75; and much more.

Nokia E50

When: June 2006 Worth: €300 - €350

Nokia E50

Read the full article » The Nokia E50 is primarily an excellent calling and light-messaging phone, and should be considered by those who fancy compact form factor and great battery life over advanced e-mail and productivity capabilities. That said, the E50 also shines with an excellent high-resolution screen and a powerful Internet browser capable of loading full-version Web sites. Read the full article »
HTC TyTN

When: August 2006

HTC TyTN

Read the full article » The HTC TyTN has connectivity down pat with tri-band UMTS and HSDPA support, quad-band GSM and EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB charging as well as microSD for memory expansion. Other highlights include a slide-out thumbboard, a 2.8-inch QVGA display with portrait and landscape modes, Windows Mobile 5.0 and a 400 MHz processor to power it all. Read the full article »
Samsung SGH-Z400

When: June 2006 (Vodafone) - €450

Samsung SGH-Z400

Read the full article » With video calling and 3G support, the slick Z400 makes for a tempting slider, especially if you happen to have a SIM card running on a UMTS network. We were impressed by the phone's top-notch screen, solid call quality and ability to access our POP/IMAP e-mail accounts. However, we wish the phone's messaging interface took full advantage of the generous 2-inch display, and we miss features such as instant messaging and voice calling. Finally, in our tests, the phone stumbled with its relatively weak signal reception. Read the full article »
HTC MTeoR

When: August 2006

HTC MTeoR

Read the full article » Debuting as the first 3G-enabled Windows Mobile business phone, the HTC MTeoR supports tri-band UMTS as well as quad-band GSM with EDGE. Bluetooth and USB with charging support take care of the short haul, while the handset also incorporates a 2.2-inch, hi-res QVGA display, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and a suite of viewers for common Office file formats. BenQ-Siemens SXG75

Score: 69% When: March 2006 Worth: €375

BenQ-Siemens SXG75

Image gallery »
Read the full article » The main allure of the BenQ-Siemens SXG75 is its merging of phone and GPS functionality into one comparably compact device - a feat which it pulls off with reasonable success. Unfortunately, either aspect is revealed as mediocre when isolated from the other, and as such only users with an equal interest in both will find themselves content with the handset. Particularly worthy of note is the good battery life and audio quality, while quality-minded buyers will frown upon both the sub-par 2 Megapixel camera and the relative heft of the device. Motorola L2

Score: 79% When: December 2005 (AT&T) Worth: €125

Motorola L2

Image gallery »
Read the full article » The L2 makes for a slim and light business companion for globe-trotting professionals focused on making calls and checking the odd e-mail message, and its Bluetooth support address-book syncing, and great battery life are all nice touches. However, more demanding chatters will frown at the weak display, lack of corporate or POP/IMAP e-mail access, GPRS-only data service and missing memory expansion. Read the full article »
BenQ-Siemens EF51

When: June 2006

BenQ-Siemens EF51

Image gallery »
Read the full article » For a music phone, the EF51 fails to impress. Although audio quality proved good, the music management capabilities of the handset were distinctly sub-par as compared to other dedicated music phones, while controls were difficult to distinguish and poorly laid out. In fact, the EF51 gives off a rather cheap overall feel, which is further solidified by its cramped display and 1.3 Megapixel camera. Lastly, we can't say we cared much for the push-through solution chosen for the music flip which affixes to the similarly so-so keypad. Read the full article »
