Not one, but two brand-new BlackBerries make it to Vodafone's network; the 8707v offers 3G and a full-width thumbboard, while the 7130 skips the 3G in favour of a sleeker shape and SureType keboard.
RIM BlackBerry 8707v
As the first 3G-enabled BlackBerry in Europe, RIM's 8707v has now begun selling from mobile network operator Vodafone. Similar to its predecessor, the 8700v, the new business phone comes equipped with a landscape QVGA display and full-width thumbboard for text input, as well as quad-band GSM connectivity and the ability to double as a tethered modem for laptop users. RIM's usual push e-mail features naturally remain present along with PIM, messaging and browser applications, while Bluetooth support enables headset connectivity.
Price and availability
Depending on price plan, the RIM BlackBerry 8707 is now available to subscribers of mobile network operator Vodafone for free or up to €190.
RIM BlackBerry 7130v
Foregoing the 3G support of its larger sibling, the 7130v belongs to the sleeker 7100 series of BlackBerry devices which also rely on RIM's SureType thumbboard concept in where each key hosts two characters and predictive text software is used to determine what the user is typing. Also a quad-band handset, the 7130v relies on EDGE for data transfers, and comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity as well as a portrait-oriented QVGA display.

Nokia E61
Score: 79% When: May 2006 Worth: €450
Read the full article » The E61 does what Nokia does best: connects people. Its all-encompassing connectivity setup is exploited in full by a broad line-up of quality messaging, office and browsing applications which run in tandem with a superb screen and more than decent thumbboard. Granted, it's not among the most powerful business phones nor does it fare well in the department of synchronization - but the latter is at long last addressable by several third party solutions. Sprinkle with handy utilities, attention to detail, good battery life and a compact form factor, and you end up with a very solid business phone contender indeed. Read the full article » |

Sony Ericsson M600i
Score: 84% When: July 2006 Worth: €500
Read the full article » Quite possibly the ideal size for a business phone, the Sony Ericsson M600i is but a hair's width from scoring full marks in the messaging, productivity and browsing departments, hampered only by the smaller-than-the-competition sizes of its otherwise excellent touch screen and thumbboard. It also delivers a solid impression in every other department, with the near-sole disappointment being its lack of a bundled USB cable and USB charging support. Add good battery life and nice touches such as a scroll wheel, stereo Bluetooth audio and a clever, agenda-style standby screen, and what emerges is a winning recipe. Read the full article » |
