Sony Ericsson K800i

Score: 90% When: June 2006 Worth: €475

Sony Ericsson K800i

Read the full article » Although more susceptible to camera shake than a low-end digital camera, the Sony Ericsson K800i is in fact capable of replacing just such a product; a considerable feat, even though the vast majority of users will not want to rely on it for preserving precious memories. Its imaging prowess is backed up by strong performance in the areas of calling and messaging, while its browser is of the rather mediocre sort; handy, then, that the overall impression is picked up by the inclusion of a stereo FM radio with RDS, a RSS reader and even a sprinkle of stereo Bluetooth audio for an otherwise unnoteworthy MP3 player. Nokia N73

Score: 97% When: August 2006 Worth: €550

Nokia N73

Read the full article » Falling only marginally short of the image quality produced by its gargantuan N93 sibling, Nokia's N73 is a superb choice for shutterbugs with its excellent picture taking skills, a multitude of sharing options and compact size - but for some strange reason it skimps on memory. The basics have also been looked well after with first-rate calling and solid messaging capabilities under the hood alongside a raft of multimedia and productivity options; whether for pleasure or business, this one's a winner. Nokia N93

Score: 88% When: August 2006 Worth: €550

Nokia N93

Read the full article » Suffering from a few teething problems in the software department, the Nokia N93 is undoubtedly capable of shooting high-quality stills and truly outstanding video - as well it should, being built like a brick house. First-rate calling and messaging capabilities are also on the slate along with a boatload of additional features, but unless you're willing to sacrifice portability for the ultimate in imaging there are better balanced options to be had. Samsung SGH-D870

When: June 2006

Samsung SGH-D870

Read the full article » The latest addition to Samsung's venerable line-up of slider handsets, the SGH-D870 is a 3 Megapixel camera phone closely related to the previously released SGH-T809 and SGH-D820. Although snapping stills and recording video isn't as straightforward an affair as with other handsets due to the lack of an application-triggering lens cover, the user interface is an intuitive bit of work which graces the usual kind of high-quality screen we've come to expect from Samsung. As for music, suffice to say you should look elsewhere. Read the full article »
Samsung SGH-Z710

When: August 2006

Samsung SGH-Z710

Read the full article » An impressively compact clamshell, Samsung's SGH-Z710 comes equipped with an otherwise good keypad which is marred by the poor layout of the navigational array. Its high-resolution display measures up nicely, as does video calling and the capabilities of its 3.2 Megapixel camera. We can't say we facour its mediocre music player - but with the right price tag and given broad availability, the SGH-Z710 could very well become one of this summer's best-selling handsets.
