The Z710 offers up EDGE, a 2 Megapixel camera, USB 2.0 and a music player; the Z550 dials it down a notch with GPRS, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and a lower-resolution display than its sibling.
Sony Ericsson Z710
Taking aim at business users with modest needs, the clamshell Z710 starts off by offering phone book and calendar synchronization over USB 2.0, adding 10 MB of onboard memory and a bundled 64 MB Memory Stick Micro card for storing files and data. Quad-band GSM, EDGE and Bluetooth cater to a multitude of uses, including on-device surfing and RSS reading, connecting headsets and providing Internet access for laptops.
Equipped with a medium resolution display, the Z710 also offers several entertainment options including a music player and stereo FM radio with RDS, as well as a 2 Megapixel camera and Java for installing 3rd party applications and games.
Price and availability
According to Sony Ericsson, the Z710 is expected to be available in retail in the third quarter of 2006. Its pricing has yet to be announced.
Sony Ericsson Z550
Catering to both personal and business users, the Z550 offers a very modest feature set by today's standards, offering the same phone book and calendar synchronization options as the Z770 over USB 2.0 but dialing data connectivity down to GPRS. Bluetooth remains, while a GSM band is slashed leaving the Z550i best suited for Europe-only use; also, its internal display is on par with that of the Z710, but its external sports a lower resolution.
With 20 MB of onboard memory, the Z550 supports Memory Stick Micro expansion but does not come with a card bundled, leaving users who want to exploit its music player and 1.3 Megapixel camera with little other option than purchasing one themselves.
Price and availability
Similar to the Z710, pricing for the Sony Ericsson Z550 has yet to be announced. The handset will be available in the third quarter of 2006.

Sony Ericsson W950i
When: September 2006
Read the full article » Retaining the first-class audio quality of previous Walkman phones, the W950i slaps an improved music interface with visual album cover navigation atop a hardware design nearly identical to the M600i, save for its use of a keypad as opposed to a thumbboard - thus negating use as a business phone. Although bested by the 8 GB Samsung SGH-i310, its 4 GB of flash memory should allow for considerably longer battery life - and despite its spacious storage and superb screen, the handset remains ultra-slim at 15 mm thick.
