Fancy standing out from the crowd - as in, really standing out? Here are some of the most luxurious fashion phones money can buy; they may not do all that much, but they sure do look good.

Vertu Ascent Motorsport

When: October 2005 Worth: €4595

Read the full article » Carbon fibre and leather are unusual choices of material for a mobile phone - but the Vertu Ascent Motorsport isn't just any other phone. A luxury item selling for more than €4000 (or US$5700), it boasts a stainless steel chassis and jewel bearings for its keys - yet a rather basic feature set including tri-band GSM with GPRS, Bluetooth and voice dialing. Vertu Ascent Pink

When: July 2005 Worth: €3850

The Pink Edition of the Vertu Ascent unashamedly targets the ladies, sticking to what phones do best - talking. Also on board: Bluetooth and voice dialing. Read the full article »
Bang & Olufsen Serene

When: January 2006 Worth: €1000

Bang & Olufsen Serene

Read the full article » It would be unfair to reach an informed conclusion about the Bang & Olufsen Serene phone without actually testing its call quality. The interface is disappointing, and the feature set leaves a lot to be desired, but those things aren't what B&O is known for. B&O is known for great sounding products in a unique design that forgo the most up-to-date technology in favor of a solid implementation of tech that's been proven, and is therefore dated. Whether the phone's call quality could possibly match the price tag is probably a moot point, the phone aims for the luxury market anyway, but if the sound doesn't far outshine the interface, Bang and Olufsen could have a clunker on its hands. Nokia 8800

Score: 60% When: July 2005 Worth: €850

Nokia 8800

Read the full article » Yet another fashion entry from Nokia, the Nokia 8800 offers a luxurious alternative to ye olde chatterbox. Its stainless steel cover and sliding mechanism ooze of quality and style, with a high-resolution screen topping off an excellent first impression. Its 0.5 Megapixel camera and digital music player are both letdowns, but the inclusion of Bluetooth and EDGE should place the 8800 firmly in the sights of those who fancy exclusivity mixed with good connectivity - and don’t mind the so-so battery life. LG KG800

Score: 68% When: May 2006 Worth: €500

LG KG800

Read the full article » With the KG800, LG clearly made the decision to keep specifications on the down low in order to bring forward a small, light and supremely stylish handset - although its price tag claims otherwise. Its feature set - including a mediocre camera and music player - compares reasonably well to other slim and fashion phones; its most aggravating fault is the lagging text input, which stands in contrast to its responsive touch-sensitive navigational controls. This is a handset for those who primarily call and text, and want to look good doing it. Read the full article »
