Aiming for luxury lovers, ASUS' new S6F ultraportable merges a 11-inch widescreen display with a genuine leather cover available either in camel or dark chocolate; a 1.6 GHz Core Duo processor; 1 GB of RAM and a 100 GB hard drive. Weighing in at a mere 1.4 KG, the notebook also boasts tri-mode Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g and Gigabit Ethernet, and will ship with both a standard an an extended battery, the latter of which is double the capacity of the former.

Offering a more powerful alternative to the company's Compaq nc2400 ultraportable, Hewlett-Packard's 1.77-KG nc4400 retains the 12.1-inch widescreen display of its lesser sibling but adds Core Duo processors up to 2.13 GHz in speed. Hard drive capacity gets a boost and is available from 60 to 100 GB, while the maximum amount of memory receives a bump to 4 GB. Tri-mode Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet remain unchanged, but the nc4400 gains a S-Video port and an extra USB 2.0 port.

Starting at 1.3 KG, HP's new Compaq nc2400 ultraportable squeezes either a Dual Layer DVD or DVD/CD-RW combo optical drive into a chassis nary wider than its 12.1-inch widescreen display, itself driven by integrated graphics. Hosting up to 2 GB of memory, the system comes with 4,200 RPM drives ranging from 30 to 60 GB in size, as well as a choice of Intel Celeron M and Core Solo processors. For connectivity, the nc2400 is equipped with tri-mode Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet.

Donning a widescreen display, Garmin's StreetPilot 2820 starts off as a WAAS-enabled 12-channel parallel GPS navigation device, then moves on to entertaining users with MP3 and audio book playback for longer trips. Waterproofed for use with motorcycles, the unit also harbours Bluetooth connectivity to double as a handsfree speaker or deliver audio prompts to Bluetooth headsets for bikers; add an optional FM TMC receiver to get automatic rerouting or an XM receiver to get rerouting and radio.
