Can't get enough storage, you say? Three brainiacs from Samsung along with offerings from Nokia and Sony Ericsson hold enough memory to store between one and two thousand MP3s.

Samsung SGH-i300
Score: 95% When: November 2005 (O2) Worth: €115 - €650
Read the full article » It may not look like a music phone at first glance, but looks can be deceiving: outstanding audio quality, intuitive and comfortable navigation, spacious storage and first-rate synchronization render the SGH-i300 the best music phone we’ve reviewed to date. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also a first-class alternative for business users not in need of editing capabilities, and contains a raft of clever little touches which show attention to detail and result in a finely polished handset. Heartily recommended. Read the full article » |

Nokia N91
Score: 87% When: May 2006 Worth: €675
Read the full article » Not much holds the N91 back from scoring full marks in the music department; the lack of bundled quality headphones and stereo Bluetooth audio is about it. Otherwise excellent audio quality, an intuitive interface, comfortable controls and superb music transfer capabilities including Windows Media Connect support are all favoured traits, as is the massive 4 GB of storage - although we're a bit miffed by the rotund form factor. Voice and messaging capabilities are first-rate with the exception of a slightly cramped keypad, while the 2 Megapixel camera and browser are unlikely to impress. As a result of its varied feature set and hard drive reliance, battery life is expectedly average, but the N91 still outperforms the vast majority of music phones at the time of writing. Sony Ericsson W950i
When: September 2006
Read the full article » Retaining the first-class audio quality of previous Walkman phones, the W950i slaps an improved music interface with visual album cover navigation atop a hardware design nearly identical to the M600i, save for its use of a keypad as opposed to a thumbboard - thus negating use as a business phone. Although bested by the 8 GB Samsung SGH-i310, its 4 GB of flash memory should allow for considerably longer battery life - and despite its spacious storage and superb screen, the handset remains ultra-slim at 15 mm thick. Samsung SGH-i310
Read the full article » As good as the SGH-i300 music phone proved to be, the SGH-i310 is better. Increasing storage to a whopping 8 GB, it rear-ends competitors including Sony Ericsson's W950i and the Nokia N91, delivering first-rate audio quality, excellent ergonomics and a snazzy high-resolution display. Now with a 2 Megapixel camera and Windows Mobile 5.0, we're happy to report that Bluetooth stereo audio streaming has been retained - but we're equally miffed by the loss of the dedicated media player and profile switching buttons.
