Boasting Windows Mobile 5.0, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, high-resolution display and microSD expansion, Qtek's clamshell 8500 is the slimmest business phone yet - and no heavyweight either at 99 g.
Standing in stark contrast to Windows Mobile business phones of yore, the new Qtek 8500 clamshell measures a mere 16 mm thick despite offering a range of advanced features which include quad-band GSM with EDGE, a 2.2-inch internal high-resolution display and a 1.2-inch external counterpart. Also known as the HTC STRTrk, the handset incorporates Bluetooth and a 1.3 Megapixel into its feature set, along with microSD memory expansion and USB connectivity with charging support.
Running Windows Mobile 5.0, the 8500 comes equipped with Pocket Windows Media Player 10 and dedicated music control buttons, harbouring 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of ROM. A suite of viewers for common document formats is also included, as is Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for push e-mail functionality towards Microsoft Exchange 2003 servers with SP2.
Price and availability
The Qtek 8500 will be available in late June throughout Europe, selling in the €500 range.

Nokia N90
Score: 83% When: August 2005 Worth: €675
Read the full article » As the first camera phone to apply proper optics along with a mix of a quality 2-megapixel sensor, a brilliant high-resolution screen and a good selection of image management software, it's no wonder Nokia's N90 is best-in-class. Granted, it’s also an unwieldy beast, but this allows for a more flexible approach to snapping pictures and recording video due to its ability to shape-shift for shooting from the hip. Its external display isn't of much use, however, and we certainly yearn for better synchronization to back up its decent amount of storage. Read the full article » |

Nokia N71
Score: 79% When: May 2006 Worth: €525
Read the full article » In addition to Nokia's usual outstanding wireless performance, the slightly rotund N71 clamshell is an all-rounder which fares decently in most respects, be it whilst shooting quality 2 Megapixel stills; playing music - despite its poor out-of-box audio quality; or doing light e-mail and document viewing. Its main allure is the spacious, high-resolution 2.4-inch display which offers the ideal canvas for its browser - but sadly, this isn't fully exploited due to the lack of layout optimization. Still, the N71 offers a sufficiently broad mix of quality features to earn a hearty recommendation. Read the full article » |
