A budget sibling to the popular N70, Nokia's new N72 replaces stainless steel with plastic and 3G with EDGE. Also: a 2 Megapixel camera, FM radio and an integrated music player.
Unveiled today alongside the Nokia N93 camera phone, the Nokia N72 carries on the heritage of the Finnish maker's popular N70 model with an all-round feature set which foregoes 3G connectivity in favour EDGE and comes equipped with a 2 Megapixel camera, the new Nokia music player software and an integrated FM radio. Also equipped with the latest browser developments from Nokia, the handset supports direct photo uploads to popular photo sharing community Flickr.

Nokia N80
Score: 76% When: May 2006 Worth: €675
Read the full article » Starting off on a high note, the Nokia N80 camera phone lines up a brilliant high-resolution screen and 3 Megapixel-pushing camera only to put its foot in its mouth seconds later through the absence of an autofocus, which hampers its ability to produce quality stills with predictive consistency. Although it also includes the most extensive line-up of printing, publishing and image management services of any camera phone to date, it still falls marginally short of its N90 predecessor - yet retains broader overall appeal due to its music, business and wireless photo streaming functionality, rendering it a superb 3G phone. Sony Ericsson W900i
Score: 80% When: December 2005 Worth: €550
Read the full article » As a 3G phone, the Sony Ericsson W900i falls short only in the areas of web browsing and battery life - the latter of which is due to its extensive feature set. Basics such as voice/video calling and messaging perform with aplomb, while the camera is one of the best we've seen sans autofocus. Sadly, the omission of earphones, insufficient memory and limited music controls make for a poor music proposal out of the box, even though memory card expansion and stereo Bluetooth audio support enables a near-full rectification of this predicament for those willing to pay. Samsung SGH-Z400
When: June 2006 (Vodafone) - €450
Read the full article » With video calling and 3G support, the slick Z400 makes for a tempting slider, especially if you happen to have a SIM card running on a UMTS network. We were impressed by the phone's top-notch screen, solid call quality and ability to access our POP/IMAP e-mail accounts. However, we wish the phone's messaging interface took full advantage of the generous 2-inch display, and we miss features such as instant messaging and voice calling. Finally, in our tests, the phone stumbled with its relatively weak signal reception. Read the full article » |
