New entries in Dell's Latitude and Precision notebook ranges bring about integrated high-speed 3G connectivity and high performance in form factors both small and large.
Dell Latitude D620
Starting at 2 KG, Dell's new Latitude D620 notebook is among the manufacturer's first to offer the option of integrated HSDPA connectivity to customers in the UK, Germany and France courtesy of a collaboration with mobile network operator Vodafone or through Cingular in the US. Enabling download speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps, the service joins an otherwise extensive array of connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and an assortment of wired alternatives as well as 'readiness' for the as-of-yet unratified 802.11n standard.
To be available from March 1st, a base configuration of the D620 starts at €1000 EUR and includes a 14.1-inch widescreen display, an Intel Core Duo processor, 512 MB of RAM and a 40 GB SATA hard drive. Additionally, the D620 premieres Dell's new Wi-Fi Catcher, which is an external feature notifying users of the presence and status of nearby Wi-Fi networks without requiring the laptop to be switched on. Other highlights include an optional integrated fingerprint reader, Smart Card reader and a TPM 1.2 module for added security.
Dell Precision M90
Bereft of the integrated high-speed connectivity options of the Latitude D620, the Precision M90 will instead offer HSDPA connectivity to users by way of a PC Card to be available from Vodafone. Sporting a 17-inch widescreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, it focuses on performance as its claim to fame, taking aim workstation users with up to 512 MB of dedicated graphics memory, a 667 MHz front side bus and up to 4 GB of DDR2 main memory.
Priced at €1900 EUR, the Precision M90 bears a remarkable resemblance to the company's line-up of XPS gaming notebooks, the most recent example of which is the
Inspiron XPS M170. At 3.8 KG, Dell has also managed to integrate several other features including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and a choice of Intel Core Duo processors; this model is available throughout Europe immediately.
Dell Latitude D820
Similar to the Latitude D620 in most respects, the D820 differs mainly from its sibling with regard to its larger, 15.4-inch widescreen display, which also causes the starting weight to go up to 2.5 KG and its price tag to €1050 EUR. Similar to the D620, also this model can be configured either with an Intel GMA 950 chipset for graphics, or a choice of considerably more powerful Nvidia Quadro NVS TurboCache graphics solutions. Available immediately.
Dell Precision M65
A full Kilo lighter than the Precision M90, the M65 edition of Dell's mobile workstation incorporates a 15.4-inch widescreen display and HSDPA connectivity identical to that that of the Latitude D620 and D820. Up to 4 GB of DDR2 memory is possible, with the system running up to 512 MB of shared graphics memory through an Nvidia Quadro FX 350M Turbocache chipset. A choice of Intel Core Duo processors round out the offering, which also includes an optional biometric fingerprint reader and optional dual batteries. €1635 EUR, available immediately throughout Europe.
