Sony Ericsson's star-studded line-up includes the multi-talented P990i; the 4 GB W950i slim music phone; and the 3.2 Megapixel K800i camera phone. Also: the M600i and W810i.
Sony Ericsson K800i hands-on impression
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the first real camera phone. Granted, Nokia's N90 came close - but at 3.2 Megapixels and with stunning picture quality, the Sony Ericsson K800i blows the competition out of the water. Fitted with autofocus, an Xenon flash and a camera-inspired user interface, it also boasts 3G, Bluetooth and Memory Stick Micro expansion to boot - all in a compact, stylish and ergonomically pleasing candybar design. Bonus point: the BestPic burst mode which snaps four before-and-after shots in the course of a second. One word: splendid. More...
Photo blogging on the go
Scoring a world first, Sony Ericsson has also managed to integrate photo blogging software compatible with Google's popular Blogger service into the K800i, rendering the act of sharing drunken shenanigans with the world that much easier. Users simply snap a picture and choose to send it to their blog, subsequent to which the image is resized to a suitable size and uploaded. Blogger accounts can be setup straight from the phone, and once posted, users can display their works of art in the phone's HTML capable microbrowser. Say cheese!
Sony Ericsson W810i hands-on impression
Slam dunk. The replacement for the handset maker's most popular Walkman phone, the W810i improves on the original W800i by adding quad-band GSM, EDGE and a reworked set of music controls. Also new is an integrated ambient light sensor for automatically adjusting screen brightness to make for optimal viewing of its snazzy Flash-based user interface themes on the 1.9-inch screen; a thumping speakerphone; and EDGE for semi high-speed date. Lastly, the excellent 2 Megapixel camera remains, and the keypad even gets a bit of a usability bump. More...
Sony Ericsson M600i hands-on impression
All dressed up in Apple white, the M600i doesn't look much like a business phone at first glance - but take a closer look, and its unusual thumbboard reveals a device primed for messaging on the go. Although difficult to get used to as two characters reside on each rocker key, it's a truly impressive business performer with its high-resolution touch screen; a raft of push e-mail software; extensive document management capabilities; and speedy performance. We can't say the inclusion of a handy scroll wheel and Memory Stick Micro expansion do anything to put us off this one, either. More...
Sony Ericsson W950i hands-on impression
Retaining the first-class audio quality of previous Walkman phones, the W950i slaps an improved music interface with visual album cover navigation atop a hardware design nearly identical to the M600i, save for its use of a keypad as opposed to a thumbboard - thus negating use as a business phone. Although bested by the 8 GB Samsung SGH-i310, its 4 GB of flash memory should allow for considerably longer battery life - and despite its spacious storage and superb screen, the handset remains ultra-slim at 15 mm thick. Sony Ericsson K610i hands-on impression
Making a second stab at bringing 3G to the people (the first of which was represented by the K600i), Sony Ericsson's K610i is a small, sleek and impressively good-looking handset with an impeccable display, good ergonomics and a quality 2 Megapixel camera. Granted, its music player isn't much to write home about and a dedicated video call button is nowhere to be found, but the K610i nonetheless remains the best choice for those who want the benefits of 3G sans the frills and complimentary bulk.
