Sony Ericsson W950i
Claiming the number one spot on our list is Sony Ericsson's fantabulous new music phone, the W950i. Built atop an advanced operating system borrowed from the maker's M600i business phone, it comes complete with a 2.6-inch, high-resolution touch sensitive display which ties into its Walkman software to allow for improved navigation of music stored in its 4 GB of memory. Other highlights include snappy 3G connectivity, a stereo FM radio with RDS, a thumbboard, Bluetooth 1.2 with streaming audio support and Opera 8.0 for surfing on the go. More...
Samsung SGH-Z710
Runner-up SGH-Z710 earns its stripes not through the sweet sound of music but rather by its whopping 3.2 Megapixel camera, which is the primary feature of this slim clamshell handset. Still, audible delights can likely be had courtesy of its music player and stereo FM radio, and having 3G connectivity and a 2.15-inch high-resolution display doesn't hurt a bit either. With 128 MB of on-board memory, storage should be ample for a basic picture and music collection - and if not, there's always a microSD slot for expansion. More...
BenQ-Siemens EF91
In third place, newly minted handset maker BenQ-Siemens makes an impression with its EF91. It's a tad bulkier than the SGH-Z710, but not only does it harbour a 3.2 Megapixel camera with autofocus - it also offers HSDPA for downloading an MP3 in less than 10 seconds. A high-resolution, 2-inch display and microSD card expansion slot round out the feature set, which also includes a MP3 player and Bluetooth with stereo audio streaming support. More...
Nokia 6136
Ever heard about Unlicensed Mobile Access, or UMA? Thought so. In a nutshell, the technology allows for seamless roaming of data and voice calls between Wi-Fi and GSM networks, and will be showing up in several handsets through the course of 2006. The 6136 is Nokia's first handset to exploit the technology, and also throws in quad-band GSM, EDGE, a 1.3 Megapixel and microSD expansion, as well as a stereo FM radio and push-to-talk support. BenQ-Siemens S81
Slim is in, and the S81 is Siemens' bid to compete in a rapidly growing niche - in style. Fitted with 3G connectivity and video calling, a 1.3 Megapixel camera exploits the two-inch screen as its viewfinder while the MP3 and WMA compatible music player relies on Bluetooth to stream audio in stereo. A microSD card expansion slot provides exchangeable storage, and there's also synchronization with Outlook on a PC to be had. More...
Samsung SGH-Z560
Better to bet on two horses than just one; where Samsung's SGH-Z710 places its chips on camera functionality, the SGH-Z560 aims for speed with the inclusion of HSDPA. Still, it's no slouch in the imaging department with a 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus, while audio playback has been given due consideration with dedicated controls and 30 MB of on-board memory. Lastly, web surfing should be an enjoyable experience with its 2.3-inch high-resolution display. More...
Sony Ericsson K610i
Granted, it's no W900i, but Sony Ericsson's K610i is the maker's first handset to incorporate 3G connectivity in a non-hernia inducing package. At a lightweight 92 g, it also manages to squeeze in a 2 Megapixel camera and even video calling, as well as a 1.9-inch 262K colour display, Bluetooth and Memory Stick Micro Expansion. Unusually, it also harbours photo blogging software and an RSS reader, in addition to USB 2.0 for snappy connectivity. More...
Samsung SGH-i320
Taking straight aim at Motorola's Q, the new SGH-i320 won't be toting 3G but still includes decent connectivity in the shape of tri-band GSM, EDGE and Bluetooth. Fitted with a landscape-oriented QVGA high-resolution screen, it measures in at a mere 11.5 mm thick, yet still includes a thumbboard, microSD card slot for memory expansion and stereo speakers. Also on tap: a 1.3 Megapixel camera, speakerphone and Office file viewing software. More...
Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX T830
Where the Samsung SGH-i320 is a light performer, the Pocket LOOX T830 from Fujitsu Siemens is an all-inclusive marvel of engineering. Just listen to this: 3G with video calling, antenna-less GPS; a 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus; Wi-Fi 802.11b/g; Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo audio streaming; a thumbboard; USB 1.1 with host capabilities; a SDIO capable SD/MMC expansion slot; a 2.4-inch touch screen; and Windows Mobile 5.0 More...
HP iPAQ hw6915/HP iPAQ hw6925
It may not be as fully featured as the Pocket LOOX T830, but Hewlett-Packard's hw6915 for Europe (to be known as the hw6925 in the US) still packs a punch with antenna-less GPS; a redesigned thumbboard; and Windows Mobile 5.0. It also sports quad-band GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for connectivity, as well as a 1.3 Megapixel camera, 3-inch touch sensitive display and a miniSD card slot for memory expansion. More...
