Ramping up for its spring launch, operator Helio today unveiled its two first handsets in the Hero and Kickflip, both of which offer EV-DO, QVGA screens, 2 Megapixel cameras and more.
In preparing for its launch as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) later this spring, Helio today unveiled the two handsets which will comprise its initial offering to the public. Produced by Korean manufacturers VK Mobile and Pantech, the Hero and Kickflip models will be equipped with some of the most advanced feature sets available in the US and also tie into social networking service MySpace to allow for on-the-go blogging, photo posting, photo viewing and sending and receiving e-mail.
Helio Hero
The slider alibi of Helio's two launch handsets, the jet-black Hero comes straight from Korea with all sorts of techno-love including a 2.2-inch, high-resolution display; a 2 Megapixel camera which both records video and shoots stills; 70 MB of onboard memory expandable by way of microSD cards; EV-DO support for blazing data transfer speeds and a media player which handles MP3, MPEG4 and H.264 formats.
Measuring in at 4.3 x 1.9 x 1 inch and 4.7 oz, the Hero also packs a speakerphone and voice recording, as well as support for streaming video on-demand and mobile Flash content. Claiming a talk time of up to 3 hours and 8 days, it has yet to receive a price tag.
Helio Kickflip
Going for a minimalist design, the pearlescent Kickflip is something as unusual as a bi-directional spinner, which offers a feature set near identical to that found in the Hero, albeit with an added 20 minutes of talk time. Its physical measurements also differ slightly from those of the Kickflip at 3.9 x 2 x 1 inches, but like its handset companion its price tag will remain unknown until the two are commercially available.
