Samsung SGH-i320
Running Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition, Samsung's new SGH-i320 aims to flesh out the Korean maker's enterprise offering and compete with devices such as the Motorola
Q and HP's newly launched iPAQ hw6900. To join the multimedia-centric
SGH-i300x later this summer, the smartphone offers tri-band GSM with EDGE support in a form factor a mere 11.5 mm thick, also incorporating a 2.2-inch, 262K colour screen with QVGA resolution and a 1.3 Megapixel camera.
Equipped with 120 MB of on-board memory, the SGH-i320 allows for memory expansion courtesy of its microSD slot, also including features such as Bluetooth, stereo speakers, speakerphone capabilites and Office file format viewing.
Price and availability
Samsung did not disclose any information concerning the expected pricing of the SGH-i320.
Samsung SGH-Z710 hands-on impression
An impressively compact clamshell, Samsung's SGH-Z710 comes equipped with an otherwise good keypad which is marred by the poor layout of the navigational array. Its high-resolution display measures up nicely, as does video calling and the capabilities of its 3.2 Megapixel camera. We can't say we favour its mediocre music player - but with the right price tag and given broad availability, the SGH-Z710 could very well become one of this summer's best-selling handsets.
Specifications
As Samsung's first 3.2 Megapixel camera phone for the European market, the SGH-Z710 focuses primarly on imaging but also includes a raft of other high-end features such as 3G connectivity, a music player and a stereo FM radio. A swivel clamshell, the handset incorporates both an external 1.1-inch display and an internal 2.15-inch, 262K colour display, initiating camera mode through a sequence of opening the flip, rotating 180 degrees and closing the flip to allow for the largest display to function as a viewfinder for the autofocus-enabled camera.
To compete with Motorola's
E1120, which is due to hit shelves shortly, other highlights include 128 MB of on-board memory and a microSD slot for memory expansion, as well as USB connectivity, Bluetooth and a file viewer for Microsoft Office document formats.
Price and availability
Weighing in at 107 g, the SGH-Z710 is also slated for an arrival later this summer and, as with the SGH-i320, currently bears no price tag.
Samsung SGH-Z560 hands-on impression
Combining a razor-sharp, large display with excellent ergonomics and a slim - yet somewhat tall - clamshell form factor, Samsung's SGH-Z560 is easily the best-looking of currently announced HSDPA handsest. Favouring speed over functionality, its camera and music player both rank as mediocre, but business users are sure to be delighted by its ability to hook ones laptop up to the Internet via Bluetooth - and particularly so as the built-in browser won't do them much good.
Specifications
Betting the farm on HSDPA, the evolutionary successor to the UMTS standard currently relied upon for 3G services in Europe, the SGH-Z560 will offer transfer speeds of 1.8 Mbps, or 6 times greater than that of current 3G handsets. Also, the handset will include a 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus, 30 MB of on-board memory and a music player with external music controls.
In addition to its external display, the SGH-Z560 clamshell naturally also harbours an internal display. Of the high-resolution QVGA variety with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colours, the display measures 2.3 inches and should offer a viewing experience similar to that of the
SGH-P900 TV phone unveiled only days ago by Samsung.
Samsung SGH-Z150 hands-on impression
The perfect match for your run-of-the-mill supermodel, Samsung's SGH-Z150 is a superbly slim handset which at 9.8 mm thick is only bested by the maker's own SGH-P300. Granted, we're more than a tad curious as to how long it can maintain a video call prior to bowing out, but it deserves high marks for its surprisingly sharp display and a top-notch keypad. Anyone looking for a phone they can actually use should look elsewhere; the SGH-Z150 is mere eye candy - albeit just about as good as it gets.
Specifications
Racking up a number two spot for the claim to the throne of candybar thin, the slim form factor of Samsung's SGH-Z150 is only bested by the maker's own, credit card-sized
SGH-P300. Measuring in at 118 x 47 x 9.8 mm and 89 g, the SGH-Z150 is a mere 0.9 mm thicker than its sibling, but incorporates vastly improved functionality including tri-band GSM with 3G connectivity, video telephony courtesy of dual 0.3 Megapixel cameras and Bluetooth.
Furthermore, the handset comes loaded with a music player supporting MP3, AAC, AAC+ and Real Audio formats, relying on its 50 MB of onboard storage and USB for storing and replacing content. A 1.9-inch screen offers a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and 262K colour depth, while final highlights include Outlook synchronization and an e-mail client.
Price and availability
Slated for availability in the second quarter of 2006, the Samsung SGH-Z150 will sell in the €400 EUR range.
