Read the full article » The K610i is all about balance - the right kinds of features, ease of use and attractive looks. Basics such as voice/video calling and messaging perform with aplomb, while the camera is one of the best we've seen sans autofocus. Sadly, the omission of earphones, insufficient memory and limited music controls make for a poor music proposal out of the box, even though memory card expansion and stereo Bluetooth audio support enables a near-full rectification of this predicament for those willing to pay. Sony Ericsson K610i hands-on impression
Making a second stab at bringing 3G to the people (the first of which was represented by the K600i), Sony Ericsson's K610i is a small, sleek and impressively good-looking handset with an impeccable display, good ergonomics and a quality 2 Megapixel camera. Granted, its music player isn't much to write home about and a dedicated video call button is nowhere to be found, but the K610i nonetheless remains the best choice for those who want the benefits of 3G sans the frills and complimentary bulk.
Specifications
Targeting the mass market, Sony Ericsson today unveiled a new 3G-enabled handset in the K610i, which represents a shot in the vein of the handset maker's popular T630 series albeit with updated design. Incorporating a 2 Megapixel camera and video calling, the feature set of the K610i is more tempered than that of siblings such as the W900i, and unlike the vast majority of Sony Ericsson's other recent releases does not include Walkman functionality.
Weighing in at a paltry 92 g, the tri-band GSM handset still outperforms many 3G competitors with its 1.9-inch, 262K colour display; Bluetooth; and Memory Stick Micro expansion. USB 2.0 is also in place, and the handset also offers several unusual software features including P-IMAP support for push e-mail; an advanced microbrowser; software for creating photo blogs; and an RSS reader.
Price and availability
To be available in 'Urban Red' and 'Evening Silver' colour schemes, the Sony Ericsson K610i will ship some time in the second quarter at an unknown price. A version for the US market has not been announced.
