Successor to the much-delayed P505 flip communicator, ASUS' P305 boasts 3G with video calling and Windows Mobile 5.0 complete with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack.
Offering a sneak peek of the specifications of its upcoming replacement for the troubled P505 flip communicator, ASUS today announced its new P305 shortly ahead of next week's 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Few details are known about the device at this point, except for its UMTS based 3G connectivity with video calling, support for Infrared and Bluetooth 1.2, and its ability to extend memory by way of miniSD cards.
Running Windows Mobile 5.0, the ASUS P305 is also the first device to be announced with built-in support for the Messaging and Security Feature Pack, an add-on to Windows Mobile 5.0 which enables true push capabilities for users synchronizing with Microsoft's Exchange 2003 SP2 groupware solution. Several other manufacturers have pledged to deliver this upgrade to existing devices, however none have committed to specific delivery dates.
Although an official launch date for the P305 has yet to be confirmed, ASUS confirmed to infoSync World that the device is currently slated for an introduction in June 2006 pending successful 3G tests, and that its expected price tag will be $500 USD.
