Following in the footsteps of the Samsung
SCH-A950 and LG VX8100 introduced in 2005, Verizon Wireless has unveiled its third music phone in the basic CDM 8945 clamshell by UTStarcom. Targeting competitors such as the Sony Ericsson
W600i and Motorola's
ROKR E1, the handset supports Verizon's over-the-air V CAST service for purchasing music on the go, and also offers the ability to synchronize with a PC as an alternative.
Omitting support for the popular MP3 format, the dual-band CDM 8945 relies on WMA and AAC formats for music playback, and is also capable of streaming both audio and video. For downloaded or transferred content, the handset harbours a microSD expansion card which holds cards up to 256 MB in size, with other features including a 0.3 Megapixel camera; MPEG4/WMV video playback; speakerphone and voice activated dialling.
Available now from Verizon Wireless, the CDM 8945 starts at $180 USD.
