Following what must be considered one of the most prolonged delays in mobility history, newly minted handset maker BenQ-Siemens is now shipping its P50 communicator - originally introduced under the BenQ brand - across Europe. Equipped with quad-band GSM, a 2.8-inch QVGA display and Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, the P50 will be matching wits with a range of fierce competitors such as the Motorola
Q, Sony Ericsson
P990 and Nokia's
E61.
The P50, which was originally slated for an introduction in late 2004, offers a number of connectivity options which include Wi-Fi 802.11b, Bluetooth, USB and Infrared. High-speed data in the shape of EDGE or 3G is notably absent, although the communicator at least offer an SDIO-enabled SD/MMC card slot for memory and accessory expansion in a form factor measuring 122 x 60 x 20 mm and weighing 170 g.
Claiming a talk time of up to 4 hours and up to 120 hours of standby, the BenQ-Siemens P50 is now selling across Europe in the €535 EUR range.
