The Nokia 6102i and 6103 add Bluetooth to popular models whilst Samsung rolls out high-end handset including the SPH-A930 and SGH-D807. Also on tap: the dazzling M8000 from Korea.
Nokia 6102i
Successor to the 6102 mid-range phone, Nokia's 6102i does little to improve on its predecessor except for adding Bluetooth - but is anything more needed? To be available in tri-band GSM versions both for the Europe and US markets, the handset features an integrated 0.3 Megapixel digital camera and Nokia Xpress audio messaging, as well as synchronizable contact and calendar information an a stereo FM radio. Due out in the first quarter of 2006 for €200 EUR.
Samsung SCH-A930
There's a lot to like about Samsung's new SCH-A930 clamshell, such as its ability to stream audio and video on demand as well as download media for offline playback. An MP3 player with microSD expansion, Bluetooth and dual stero speakerphone capabilities are also on the slate, along with a built-in 1.3 Megapixel camera which moonlights as a camcorder. To sell at an unknown price, this close cousin of the
MM-A940 and
MM-A920 will be out in the US in the first quarter of 2006 toting dual displays.
Nokia 6103
Offering essentially the same feature set as that of the Nokia 6102i, the 6103 is the successor to the maker's 6101 mid-range handset, featuring an updated form factor and some new features - among them those found in the 6102i. Due out in the first quarter of 2006 for €200 EUR, it also includes support for MIDI and MP3 ring tones, as well as voice dialing and speakerphone capabilities.
Samsung SGH-D807
Closely related to the
SGH-T809 from T-Mobile, the SGH-D807 is a slim black slider phone with quad-band GSM support and a 1.3 Megapixel camera which also records video. A microSD card expansion slots allows for storage of MP3 music and ringtones, and the handset also supports Bluetooth, a range of popular instant messaging services and MobiTV. Due out in the second quarter of 2006, it also features a 262K colour screen and SyncML DS/DM support.
Samsung M8000
Lastly, for something more exotic. The M8000 belongs to Samsung's MiT line of devices, which in the Western market is represented by such entries as the
SCH-i830 - which, expectedly, looks a tad puny in comparison with its Korean counterpart. The reason? The M8000 sports WiBro connectivity, a Korean twist on the WiMAX standard which delivers up to 10 times the speeds of the EV-DO networks on which the SCH-i830 operates; other features remain nearly identical. And no, it's not going outside Korea any time soon - but with ongoing WiMAX trials in the UK and US who knows what the future holds?
