Business and consumer laptops abound as Toshiba unveils its Dual Core powered line-up for 2006 comprising the Portege M400 ultraportable, a HD-DVD enabled Qosmio G30 and more.
At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toshiba today announced the company's line-up of notebooks for 2006 based on Intel's newly unveiled Centrino Duo platform consisting of Intel's new Dual Core processors as well as Mobile 945 and PRO/Wireless 3945 ABG wireless chipsets. The line-up includes everything from minute ultraportables to media notebooks brimming with power.
Toshiba Portege M400
This ultraportable will be joining Toshiba's three existing tablets, and is more than likely to replace the maker's current Tecra offering, the M4. To sport a dual core processor running at a minimum of 1.83 GHz, this ultraportable features an integrated optical drive as well as a 12.1-inch XGA display; alas, no widescreen. Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g is also on slate, but that's all Toshiba will reveal for the time being.
Toshiba Qosmio G30
Unveiled as the world's first notebook to feature an integrated HD-DVD drive, Toshiba's next-generation Qosmio G30 media notebook has yet to receive a model number - but to mitigate this, the maker has released slightly more information concerning its capabilities. Also powered by an Intel Core Duo processor, this model will feature a 17-inch widescreen display and a Nvidia graphics chipset to deliver video compatibilty up to 1080p resolution.
Furthermore, the Qosmio G30 boasts a 1-bit digital amplifier and Harman/Kardon bass reflex speaker technology for an improved audio experience, and runs Windows XP Media Center 2005 complete with an integrated analog TV tuner.
Other models
A range of other business notebooks were also named by Toshiba, including the Tecra A6 and M4, both featuring 14.1-inch WXGA widescreen displays and the Tecra A7 which adds yet one more inch. Consumers will also receive new offerings, among them the Satellite M100 with a 14-inch WXGA widescreen; Satellite A100 with 15.4-inch WXGA widescreen; and the spacious, 17-inch Satellite P100.
Complete configurations and pricing for all products except for the next-generation Qosmio will be announced in February, with select models also to offer Intel's single-core alternative to the Core Duo, the Coro Solo. The next-generation Qosmio series specifications and pricing will be announced in March 2006.
