With 8 GB of hard drive storage, Philips' new GoGear HDD1850 portable audio player boasts a photo-viewing colour screen, stereo FM radio and support for Microsoft PlaysForSure.

Sticking to its guns in an increasingly competitive market, Philips has announced the introduction of its GoGear HDD1850 portable audio player at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Following on the heels of its recently-announced GoGear HDD1630 and HDD6630 siblings, the player offers a colour screen for photo viewing as well as support for MP3, WMA and PlaysForSure audio content.

At 8 GB, the GoGear HDD1850 will be measured against players such as the Sony NW-A1000 and Creative Zen Micro Photo, and features a backlit sensory touch pad for navigation. Equipped with a colour screen, the HDD1850 supports the viewing of photos in JPEG format as thumbnails, slideshows or in full-screen mode and makes further use of its screen to display album art when available.

Also present is the ability to create playlists on the go, as well as a stereo FM tuner, USB 2.0 for high-speed connectivity and a speed charge capability where one hour of charging yields 70 percent capacity.

Claiming a playback time of up to 18 hours, the Philips GoGear HDD1850 will begin shipping in May 2006 at a suggested retail price of $250 USD.
