The latest laptop from HP features all the usual bells and whistles such as a 15-inch display, Wi-Fi, up to 60 GB of storage and Bluetooth - plus integrated, high-speed EV-DO connectivity.
Introducing its first laptop with integrated high-speed data connectivity, Hewlett-Packard today unveiled the Compaq nc6140 at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Featuring integrated dual antennas and an EV-DO radio compatible with carrier Verizon Wireless' network, the notebook comes with pre-installed software to enable rapid installation and claims average download speeds between 400 and 700 Kbps.
Delivered with a choice of Intel Pentium M 2.0 or 1.8 GHz processors, the nc6140 can be configured with a maximum of 2 GB RAM and either 40 or 60 GB hard drives with shock protection. Buyers can also choose from two optical drives; either a Dual Layer DVD drive or a DVD/CD-RW combo.
Equipped with a 15-inch display with either XGA or SXGA+ resolution, the nc6140's graphics are powered by an Intel GMA900 chipset with up to 128 MB of shared memory. Connectivity options are numerous, and include Gigabit Ethernet; a 56K modem; four USB 2.0 ports; FireWire; and S-Video and VGA out for video. Wireless options include Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g.
Additionally, dual PCMCIA Type II slots allow for expansion along with a multi-format memory card reader supporting SD/MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, SmartMedia and xD Memory Card formats.
Weighing in at 2.7 KG and measuring 328 x 247 x 30 mm, HP Compaq nc6140 is available immediately starting at $1,400 USD for a base configuration. An additional $60 USD will secure unlimited broadband from Verizon Wireless for existing voice plan customers; others will be required to pay $80 USD.
