Based on Intel's new Viiv entertainment platform, the Kapsel Media Center is unlike any other Windows powered media PC with its minimalistic, white and circular design - in ceramics.
As one of the first products to be unveiled to rely on Intel's new Viiv platform, the Kapsel Media Center is certainly among the more unusual media PC designs to witness the light of day. Developed by Swedish start-up Kapsel Multimedia, the Media Center measures a compact 27 x 23 x 10 cm and features a minimalistic design more reminiscent of Apple products than typically less-attractive Windows based counterparts.
Despite its telltale focus on design, however, the Kapsel Media Center does indeed run Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 atop what the company describes as a 'high-performance' set of components; details were not available at the time of press. The media PC will however include the benefits of Intel's Viiv platform, which include Quick Resume Technology for rapid standby and resume operations; simplified media networking; on-the-fly digital content transcoding; and high-definition 7.1 surround sound.
According to Kapsel Multimedia, its product is barely audible when in operation, and will also be delivered with a remote control and wireless keyboard. The product is slated for production in the first quarter of 2006, with its price yet to be disclosed.
