The US' most versatile Windows Mobile communicator goes on sale later this month from Verizon; the Samsung SCH-i830 sports dual-band GSM/CDMA, EV-DO, Bluetooth and more.
At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, Verizon confirmed the upcoming availability of the Samsung SCH-i830 communicator on its network for January 24. Offering dual-band GSM and dual-band CDMA connectivity sprinkled with EV-DO for fast data transfer speeds, the slider form factor device is a successor to
Samsung's SCH-i730 which made its official debut at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Equipped with a QVGA display and running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, the SCH-i830 mainly differs from its predecessor through the inclusion of dual-band GSM and dual-band CDMA support complete with EV-DO, remaining otherwise identical to the SCH-i730 but sacrificing Wi-Fi connectivity in the process. Fitted with a 2.8-inch QVGA display and integrated thumbboard, the device harbours 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of non-volatile memory.
Other highlights of the device, which will be in direction competition with
Verizon's own XV6700 communicator, include Bluetooth support, as well as an SDIO capable SD/MMC card expansion slot and dual stereo speakers with SRS TruSurround, speakerphone capabilities and more.
The Samsung SCH-i830 will be available to enterprise customers through Verizon Wireless business sales on January 10 with general availability to follow on January 24 for $600 USD with a two-year service agreement.
