Toting a 15.4-inch widescreen display, 100 GB hard drive and a built-in hybrid analog/digital TV tuner, ASUS' all-carbon version of its W1 media notebook arrives in time for the holidays.
Looking for something special this Christmas? ASUS makes a stab at fitting the bill with a special edition of the notebook maker's W1 media notebook sporting a full carbon jacket, improving on the measly protective carbon display lid of the original. A generous 15.4 inches, the W1 Carbon will be available exclusively from Harrods, Selfridge and MicroAnvika stores in London in time for the holidays.
Equipped with a 1.86 GHz Pentium M 750 processor and 1 GB of 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, the laptop totes a 100 GB hard drive spinning at 5,400 RPM for delivering content to the widescreen 15.4-inch display of the unit. Sporting a WSXGA+ resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels, the display is powered by a 128 MB ATI Radeon X700 graphics chipset through which TV signals are also piped.
As with the original W1 edition, the W1 Carbon is also eqiupped with a built-in hybrid analog/digital TV tuner, supporting both analog transmissions and those in the DVB-T format such as the UK's Freeview service. Also present is a DVD Super Multi Drive for various purposes, along with a total of five speakers - one of which is billed as a subwoofer.
Other highlights include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 support, along with Gigabit Ethernet, a 56K V.92 modem and a compliment of both USB 2.0 and FireWire ports.
Slated for availability in early December from Selfridge, Harrods and MicroAnvika, the ASUS W1 Carbon Edition will sell for £1400 GBP, or €2,050 EUR.
