With the new Stowaway Shasta Bluetooth fold-out keyboard from Think Outside, owners of a range of BlackBerry smartphones from RIM can drastically speed up text input.

Sailing up as a possible lifeline for heavy BlackBerry users, Think Outside has launched a version of its popular Stowaway Bluetooth fold-out keyboard for several BlackBerry series dubbed the Stowaway Shasta. In a bid to alleviate so-called 'BlackBerry thumb' and speed up text input, currently compatible models include the BlackBerry 7100, 7200 and 7500 series - among them the recently launched, high-speed 7130e from Verizon Wireless.

Measuring in at 5.7 x 3.9 x .6 inches and 7 oz, the keyboard is available in an English QWERTY layout with a 5th row of numerical keys. BlackBerry owners will be able to install the driver for the keyboard over the air, unlike users of the Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard compatible with Palm OS, Windows Mobile and Symbian OS platforms.

Similar to the Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard, however, the Stowaway Shasta features a dedicated key layout with hot keys for accessing commonly used applications on the BlackBerry platform. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, the keyboard claims up to 90 hours of continuous use and 168 hours of standby, also featuring an auto sleep mode for battery conservation purposes.

Initially supporting the BlackBerry 7100, 7200 and 7500 series, the Think Outside Stowaway Shasta is immediately available, selling for $100 USD.
