By way of memory cards, Neuros' MPEG-4 Recorder 2 records video from TVs, DVDs and more for playback on portable devices such as Sony's PlayStation Portable and the iPod Video.
Tweaking its original offering, Neuros has made available the second edition of its memory card-reliant MPEG-4 Recorder in the aptly named MPEG-4 Recorder 2. Having substituted the SD/MMC card support of its predecessor with Memory Stick Duo, the newcomer retains its CompactFlash slot and ability to record video to memory cards from a variety of sources - now with special consideration for Sony's PlayStation Portable and the Apple iPod Video.
Utilizing the MPEG4 format for recording, the MPEG-4 Recorder 2 encodes video in one of three resolutions: 640 x 480 pixels; 320 x 240 pixels; and 368 x 208 pixels, the latter of which matches the WQVGA resolution of the Sony PlayStation portable. Also offering four quality settings through Super Fine, Fine, Normal and Economy choices, the device relies on the AAC audio codec for adding sound to its recordings.
In addition to recording video to memory cards, the MPEG-4 Recorder 2 also plays back recordings, easily substituting VHS recorders courtesy of its infrared remote control. Also, the firmware of the device is upgradeable, theoretically allowing for functionality to be added in the future.
Available now, the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 sells for $150 USD.
