Powered by Windows XP and a proprietary user interface, the BeoMedia 1 offers up a 160 GB hard drive and the ability to play back audio and video as well as stream Internet radio.
Introducing its first media PC, Bang & Olufsen has announced the BeoMedia 1, combining audio and video recording and playback with Internet radio and the company's proprietary BeoLink streaming solution. Also offering web surfing courtesy of Internet connectivity, the BeoMedia 1 stores all media locally, foregoing streaming of any kind from local network sources.
Claiming a 'nearly noiseless experience' in the 20-23 decibel range, the BeoMedia 1 comes equipped with a 160 GB hard drive atop which runs Windows XP with a custom user interface as opposed to the Media Center edition of the operating system, employed in competing products such as
the Shuttle XPC M 1000 or
Acer's Aspire L250.
Although the exact formats supported by the BeoMedia 1 are unknown, the company lists the media PC as being able to rip and play back CDs, outputting sound through stereo RCA or SPDIF. For video, only playback is supported, with output served by VGA, S-Video and Composite connectors.
The BeoMedia 1 also supports Bang & Olufsen's proprietary BeoLink wired connectivity solution, which allows a range of the company's products to stream audio and video amongst one another. The setup is controlled by the Beo4 remote control, which is similarly capable of controlling a number of BeoLink compatible products.
Available immediately, the Bang & Olufsen BeoMedia 1 sells for $2,700 USD.
