The new Gmini 402 Camcorder from Archos tacks a 1.2 Megapixel camera onto the 20 GB of storage, 2.2-inch screen and audio/video playback capabilities of its predecessor.
Adding to its portfolio of portable video players, Archos has announced the upcoming availability of its Gmini 402 Camcorder in Europe. Joining the ranks of such devices as the
5-inch AV500 and
behemoth AV700 sporting a 7-inch display, the Gmini 402 Camcorder sports among other features a 20 GB hard drive and 2.2-inch display as well as a 1.2 Megapixel camera.
Offering audio, image and video playback, the Gmini 402 Camcorder is the first device from Archos to integrate a digital camera - functionality which was previously present only through plug-in modules. The addition of a camera lets users shoot stills and record video, the latter for which the 20 GB hard drive can a maximum of 50 hours; 13 for high resolution video.
As a Windows Media device with PlaysForSure compatibility, the Gmini 402 Camcorder will not only synchronize with Windows Media Player 10, but also supports WMA and Secure WMA formats in addition to MP3 and WAV playback in the audio department. For video, the device offers MPEG4 and Windows Media Video (WMV) 5 - the latter of which also in the secure variety.
Capable of external output to a TV, the Gmini 402 also offers viewing of JPEG pictures and voice recording, as well as USB 2.0 connectivity with USB Host capabilities for high-speed data transfers.
Measuring in at 106 x 60 x 17 mm and 160, the device will be available in European markets in November alongside its Gmini 402 predecessor released in July 2005, selling in the €450 EUR range.
