A 2.4-inch display, the new Nokia Web Browser with RSS support and music player join a 2 Megapixel camera and 3G in the Finnish maker's latest clamshell smartphone, the N71.

Lining up alongside the N92 TV smartphone and N80 media marvel, Nokia today debuted its N71 smartphone with a focus on multimedia and browsing at its Mobility Conference in Barcelona. A clamshell with a 2.4-inch, 262K colour high resolution display, the smartphone employs the same 240 x 320 pixel resolution as that of the aforementioned N92, marking only the second use of such a display in Nokia's smartphone portfolio.

One of the highlights of the Nokia N71, although present both in the N92 and N80, is the new Nokia Web Browser with Mini Map featuring a semi-transparent zoomed-out overall view of web pages to let users gain a better overview and see their original design. Furthermore, the new browser supports RSS, letting users stay up-to-date with feeds on the go.

Another emphasis of the N71 is multimedia, with the smartphone being equipped with a multi-format audio player supporting MP3, WMA and AAC formats as well as a stereo FM radio with Nokia Visual Radio support. The 10 MB of internal memory found in the N71 is sparse when compared to other recent Nokia smartphones such as the aforementioned N92 and the whopping 3 GB hard drive of the Nokia N91, however users do have the option of expanding memory by means of miniSD cards which are available in size up to 2 GB.

Equipped with 3G and tri-band GSM as well as support for EDGE, connectivity options in the N71 also include Infrared, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 for a variety of purposes including printing of pictures taken with the 2 Megapixel camera of the handset. Shooting stills at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels and recording video at up to 352 x 288 pixels, the main camera is also joined by a front-mounted 0.3 MP camera to enable video calls.

To be delivered with an in-box Nokia Audio Adapter, the Nokia N71 is scheduled to hit shelves across Europe in the first quarter of 2006 at €400 EUR.
