Plugging a hole in the maker's line-up, Garmin releases the iQue M4 handheld with integrated GPS and pre-loaded maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Garmin today announced the introduction of the maker's third Windows Mobile handheld to sport integrated GPS, the iQue M4. Joining the existing
iQue M3 and
iQue M5 models, the most recently announced model aims to stand apart through the inclusion of full City Navigator North America NT street data of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
As with previous models, the iQue M4 employs Garmin's StreetPilot interface to let users navigate by name or street address through turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions. Destinations can also be selected through the points of interest (POIs) database, which includes nearly six million POIs such as restaurants, fuel, banks and hotels.
Powered by a 312 MHz Intel Xscale PXA270 processor, the iQue M4 comes with 64 MB of RAM and 32 MB of ROM and is powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition platform. A 3.5-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 65K colour depth provides an interface for users, with the M4 also integrating several means of connectivity including Infrared, USB and an SDIO capable SD/MMC card expansion slot for memory and accessory expansion.
Measuring in at 128 x 72 x 19 mm and 166 g, the iQue M4 claims a battery life of up to 7 hours of continuous GPS/PDA use with the integrated SiRFstar III GPS receiver.
The iQue M4 is expected to be available in the US in December at an estimated retail price of $700 USD.
