Boasting Bluetooth, Java, BREW and video ringtones among other features, Nokia slates the 6165 and 2855 clamshell CDMA handsets for launch in the first half of 2006.
Updating its range of CDMA handsets, Nokia has announced the 2855 and 6165 clamshell CDMA phones due for arrival in the first half of 2006. As the most advanced of the two handsets, the 6165 offers up analog and CDMA 800/1900 MHz network support with CDMA2000 1xRTT for data transfer speeds up to 150 Kbps, as well as Infrared, Bluetooth and USB via Nokia's proprietary Pop-port connector for shorter-range connectivity.
Integrating a 1 Megapixel digital camera with a maximum resolution for still shots of 1152 x 864 pixels, the 6165 is also capable of recording video in H.263 format at a QCIF resolution of 176 x 144 pixels. These can be displayed on the internal 262K colour display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels, whereas the external display is best suited for less advanced tasks with a resolution of 96 x 96 pixels and 65K colour depth.
Powered by Nokia's Series 40 platform, the handset also offers video streaming, video ringtones and speakerphone capabilities. Measuring in at 87 x 45 x 25 mm and 106 g, the handset claims a talk time of up to 3.5 hours and standby time of up to 15 days from its 1070 mAh Lithium Ion battery.
Meanwhile, the Nokia 2855 represents Nokia's most affordable Bluetooth-enabled handset with version 1.2 of the short-range communications technology on board. This is joined by Nokia's Pop-port, whereas long-range connectivity is handled by analog and CDMA 800/1900 MHz support.
Unlike the 6165, the 2855 does not offer a camera, but instead provides Push-To-Talk as one of its most attractive features. Also, the handset incorporates support for both Java MIDP 2.0 and BREW 3.1 to enable 3rd party applications, as well as support for the playback of songs stored in eAAC+ format.
Another feature is video ringtones, which are displayed on the 262K colour internal display of the handset with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels; the external display must, as with the 6165, see itself relegated to more menial tasks with a resolution of 96 x 65 pixels and monochrome black/blue colour palette. Other highlights include speakerphone, voice dialing and voice recording.
Due out in CDMA markets including the US in the first quarter of 2006, the Nokia 6165 will be available in three colour schemes: Grey/Silver, Red/Silver and Blue/Black. The 2855, meanwhile, is due in the second quarter of 2006 and will be available in Cabernet, Indigo and Silver palettes.
