The ability to shoot 6 Megapixel stills merges with VGA resolution video recording in Sanyo's new hybrid Xacti C6 digital camcorder, also sporting a 2-inch LCD viewfinder.

Following hot on the heels of its recently introduced Xacti C40, Sanyo today announced the Xacti C6 digital camcorder. The most capable of the camcorders introduced in the Xacti line thus far, the C6 trumps the capabilities of both the previously introduced Xacti VPC-C5 and the more recently introduced Xacti C40 models, offering a beginner's alternative to

At 108 x 68 x 23 mm and 145 g, the Xacti C6 offers a 5x optical zoom lens combined with a 6 Megapixel CCD sensor, allowing for still shots up to 10 Megapixels with interpolation. Video recording, meanwhile, takes place at resolutions up to 640 x 480 pixels and 30 FPS; content is stored in MPEG4 format, and the camcorder also includes an electronic image stabilizer.

Brand new as of the C6 is 9-point multi autofocus which can be dropped in favour of a 16-step manual focus, with the camcorder also offering six white balance settings including auto and an integrated flash with red eye reduction. These and other functions are managed through the 210K pixel, 2-inch LCD viewfinder which swivels 285 degrees to allow for shooting from a range of positions.

On the note of audio, the Xacti C5 records in dual channel stereo in AAC format at 16 bits and 48 KHz, complete with wind and motor noise reduction. Also present is S-Video out with NTSC/PAL support, letting users connect the camcorder to a TV for playback, as well as USB 2.0 for PC connectivity.

Storing recorded media to SD cards, the Xacti C6 claims a recording time of up to 60 minutes of video and up to 140 still images by the CIPA standard from its rechargeable, exchangeable Lithium Ion battery. The camcorder comes with a range of software including Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5 SE; Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4.0 SE; and Ulead Motion Director SE 1.1.

To be available throughout Europe from November 2005, the Sanyo Xacti C6 will sell for €700 EUR sans SD card.
