Sporting Windows Mobile 5.0, a QVGA display and support for EDGE, the latest addition to Orange's venerable line of SPV mobile devices arrives: world, meet SPV C600.

Chalking up the introduction of the first Windows Mobile 5.0 powered smartphone device in Europe, Orange today announced the SPV C600. A successor to the company's SPV C550, the C600 brings with it several minor improvements, the most notable of which is the addition of Windows Mobile 5.0 and its improved suite of applications.

A quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz device with support for GPRS and EDGE, the latter of which is not available in Orange UK's network, the C600 boasts a 240 x 320 pixel QVGA display with 262K colour depth. Infrared, USB and Bluetooth are present in the department of connectivity, along with memory expansion via miniSD cards.

Offering 64 MB of persistent memory, the C600 also integrates a 1.3 Megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels and 4x digital zoom. The camera also records video in MPEG4, AVI and H.263 formats, all of which the smartphone is also capable of playing back alongside 3GPP format video.

Other features include a vibrating alert; voice commands and dialling; and the removal of dedicated music keys as compared to the SPV C550.

The Orange SPV C600 will be available in France, UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland from the end of October, whilst Romania, Belgium, Slovakia and Poland will see its introduction in the first week of November. According to Orange, the smartphone will sell in the €250 EUR range.
