Now hitting shelves, D-Link's DI-634M MIMO Wi-Fi router lacks 802.11n certification, yet bumps transmission speeds to 108 Mbps - complete with packet prioritization.

Despite the 802.11n standard having yet to be completed, D-Link has introduced its first MIMO-enabled wireless router in the DI-634M Wireless 108G MIMO Router. The router, which also incorporates packet prioritization technology from D-Link, offers data transfer speeds of up to 108 Mbps and increased coverage, yet may not be compatible with other 802.11n products once the standard has been established.

To sell alongside other D-Link MIMO-enabled products such as the company's DWL-G520M PCI expansion card and DWL-G650M PCMCIA expansion card, the router relies on MIMO technology to achieve increased coverage and throughput. For this purpose, the DI-634M utilizes four antennas - two horizontal and two vertical - to distribute radio signals in both vertical and linear planes in a bid to increase its wireless coverage area.

Also present is the D-Link's Packet Prioritization Engine as first seen in the company's DWL-G820 gaming router, offering Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization for bandwidth sensitive applications such as VoIP and online gaming.

Fully compatible with existing 802.11b/g equipment, the DI-634M also supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 for data encryption as well as MAC or IP address filtering for added security. Other features include integrated firewall functionality using both NAT and and Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI).

Available immediately in the US, the D-Link DI-624M Wireless 108G MIMO Router sells for $160 USD.
