The 3rd edition of Slim Devices' Squeezebox promises hassle-free audio streaming and Internet radio courtesy of Wi-Fi 802.11g and format for most every audio format.
Slim Devices has introduced the 3rd generation of its Squeezebox network music player, offering Internet radio and audio streaming across home networks by wired as well as wireless means. Equipped with 10/100 Ethernet and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, the player supports a smorgasboard of audio formats and connectors whilst a 320 x 32 pixel vacuum fluorescent display provides the user interface of the unit.
As one of very few players, the Squeezebox 3 supports lossless formats in the shape of Apple Lossless, FLAC and WMA Lossless in addition to more common formats such as MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg Vorbis and more. Also, the device supports streaming of entirely uncompressed formats such as AIFF, WAV and PCM.
For audio out, the Squeezebox 3 offers analog RCA as well as both coaxial and optical SPDIF. In addition, a 3.5 mm earphone jack is also present, letting users listen to streaming audio or always-on Internet radio in privacy. Other highlights include support for WEP, WPA and WPA2-AES encryption for wireless connections, as well as Wake-on-LAN and an extended radio directory for Internet radio stations.
Available immediately in the US, the Slim Devices Squeezebox sells for $250 USD.
