New LOOX handhelds from Fujitsu Siemens jump on the Windows Mobile 5.0 bandwagon, offering integrated Wi-Fi and GPS - yet otherwise a rather modest set of specifications.
Refreshing its line-up of LOOX handhelds, Fujitsu Siemens today announced the introduction of the LOOX N500 series, initially comprised of the N500 and N520 models. Offering far less comprehensive specification sets than that of the maker's current, Windows Mobile 2003-based LOOX 700 series, the new models aim to capture the attention of buyers with integrated GPS functionality.
Based around 312 MHz Intel Xscale PXA270 processors, the N500 and N520 are nearly identical with the exception of the latter offering 128 MB of non-volatile memory where the former has 64 MB; and the N500 not offering Wi-Fi. Both models offer 64 MB of RAM, as well as transflective QVGA TFT displays with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 65K colour depth.
The integrated GPS connectivity of the handhelds is their unique selling point, based around a SiRFstar III GPS module and with optional navigation software from Navigon in the shape of Mobile Navigator 5.0. Further on the note of software, the two devices are powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 and also come with some additional software of Fujitsu Siemens' making.
Other highlights include an SDIO capable SD/MMC card expansion slot and a blue backlit navigational button array, as well as USB and IrDA connectivity.
Available immediately across Europe, the Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX N500 and N520 can be had for €335 EUR and €360 EUR, respectively.
