Jumping on the thin bandwagon, LG has announced that its U880 3G clamshell will be available from Three networks in a range of countries from November. At 18.2 mm thick, the maker claims the handset is the world's thinnest 3G clamshell, yet despite this contains an advanced feature set including a 1.3 Megapixel camera, 2-inch LCD display and more.
To launch alongside Motorola's newly announced RAZR V3x and two Nokia models, the 6280 and N70, the U880 offers a number of high-end features such as an internal 2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and 262K colour depth, joined by a 96 x 96 pixel, 65K colour TFT external display.
Also sporting a 1.3 Megapixel swivel camera, dual stereo speakers and speakerphone capabilities, the U880 offers video telephony as well as support for several multimedia formats. For video, the handset offers up MPEG4 recording and playback, whilst for audio, MP3, WMA and AAC are on the slate long with MIDI, AMR and WAV.
75 MB of onboard memory is offered to future owners of the U880, which also boasts a microSD expansion slot to allow for further memory expansion. Other highlights include Bluetooth and USB connectivity, as well as support for audio and video on demand; a WAP compatible microbrowser; Java support; an e-mail client; and MMS.
Measuring in at 99 x 49 x 18 mm and 99 g, the LG U880 claims a talk time of up to 244 minutes and standby time of up to 297 hours from its 840 mAh Lithium Ion battery. The handset is compatible with 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM bands and 2100 MHz WCDMA.
The LG U880 will be available in glossy black, matté black, silver and pink editions through mobile network operator Three in markets including UK, Italy, Austria, Australia, Hong Kong, Sweden and Denmark from the middle of November 2005. Information concerning the expected pricing of the handset was not available at the time of press.
