The newest media PC from Shuttle assumes a rack form factor, sporting specifications fine-tuned for digital media reception, recording and distribution: meet the XPC M 1000.

Making its entry into the world of component size media PCs, Shuttle has unveiled its first rack form factor unit in the XPC M 1000 - previously known as the MCE-01. Running the most recent version of Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center 2005 platform, known as Update Rollup 2, the media PC offers a stylish black design in combination with specifications tailored for its use as a digital content hub.

Powered by a Pentium M 740 processor with a clock speed of 1.73 GHz, the XPC M 1000 comes configured with 512 MB of RAM expandable to 2 GB. Graphics performance is supplied by a Nvidia 6600LE PCI-Express x16 card with 256 MB of dedicated video memory, and the unit is also equipped with dual analog tuner cards with PAL/NTSC support; ATSC or DVB-T tuner cards are available as options.

For storage, the XPC M 1000 offers up a 250 GB SATA hard drive spinning at 7,200 RPM. A Dual Layer DVD drive is also present, and a battery of memory card formats are supported including SD/MMC; SmartMedia; Memory Stick; Memory Stick PRO and CompactFlash Type II.

Video and audio connections abound, with the M 1000 offering up Component, VGA and DVI video output alongside SPDIF optical, coaxial and RCA out for 7.1 audio. Also present is an FM radio antenna port for the integrated FM tuner, as well as four USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet with Wake-on-LAN and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

Available immediately in North America, the Shuttle XPC M 1000 starts at $1,900 USD. The XPC M 1000 is also expected to be available in Europe in November, starting at €1,770 EUR.
