Following hot on the heels of its introduction in Europe, iriver starts shipping the U10 in the US; not only does it do audio - it also plays back video on its 2.2-inch touch screen.
iriver today announced the availability of its split-personality U10 portable audio/video player in the US. Sporting a slightly larger display than previous attempts, the U10 boasts a 2.2-inch colour display and does away with button navigation in favour of a touch-sensitive display through which the device is controlled.
Measuring in at a minute 69 x 47 x 16 mm and tipping the scales at 70 g, the display of the U10 sports an uncommonly high resolution at 320 x 240 pixels. To be available with either 512 MB or 1 GB of storage, the U10 supports MP3, WMA and WMA 10 DRM audio formats as well as MPEG4-SP for video, also adding still picture viewing courtesy of JPEG support, flash animation and the capability to display text files.
Navigated entirely by means of its touch screen, the U10 is equipped with a 2.2-inch 65K colour display with the uncommonly high QVGA resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Discarding a stylus in favour of finger taps, the unit is also fitted with an integrated FM tuner complete with a real-time clock to allow for the U10 to double as an alarm clock once docked in an optional cradle fitted with stereo speakers.
The U10 also boasts recording capabilities, including a timer-controlled recording function for its radio; a 3.5 mm line-in jack for input from any audio source; and voice recording courtesy of its built-in microphone.
Two versions of the iriver U10 are now available in the US: the 512 MB edition which sells for $200 USD, and the 1 GB version which bears a $250 USD price tag.
