Featuring 8 GB of storage and support for MP3, WMA and Secure WMA, Creative's new Zen Micro Photo goes on sale with a photo-viewing 262K colour OLED display and FM radio.

Presenting itself as an alternative to Apple's recently launched iPod nano, Creative has initiated sales of its latest portable audio player, the Zen Micro Photo. Adding photo viewing capabilities to the 6 GB Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Photo also bumps storage capacity to 8 GB - double that of Apple's iPod nano, yet reliant on a hard drive as opposed to the non-volatile flash memory of its arch nemesis.

The most obvious improvement to the Zen Micro Photo over its predecessor is its 1.5-inch, 262K colour OLED display, enabling photo viewing on the mainly audio-oriented device. Underneath its exterior, however, the audio player has also been upgraded with an 8 GB hard drive which adds 30% more storage whilst the list of supported audio formats remains unchanged with MP3, WMA and WMA DRM on board.

Other highlights include a stereo FM radio, voice recording capabilities and synchronization of Contacts, Calendar and Tasks information with Microsoft Outlook - all taking place over a USB 2.0 connection.

Claiming a playback time of up to 15 hours, the Creative Zen Micro Photo is now available in North America and Europe, selling for $250 USD and €300 EUR, respectively.
