Recording to either optical media or its internal hard drive, the Sony RDR-HX1010 offers a massive 400 GB of storage space along with support for Dual Layer DVDs, HDMI and more.
Replacing its previous flagship, the DR-HX1000, Sony has announced that the company has now begun shipping its most capable digital video recorder to date, the RDR-HX1010, across Europe. Boasting a 400 GB hard drive and a Dual Layer DVD optical drive, the recorder boasts a broad number of connectivity options and is capable of recording a whopping 54 hours to its hard drive at the highest quality setting.
Based upon a 12-bit, 216 MHz video DAC, the RDR-HX1010 incorporates Sony's newly developed D-Matrix Noise Reduction technology which aims to reduce digital noise by means of the simultaneous application of three different reduction technologies. Also, the recorder includes Sony's 'HQ+ mode' recording, which the company claims offers better video recording quality than the traditional DVD format.
Accepting video in by means of DVI, S-Video and Composite, the RDR-HX1010 supports NTSC/PAL and also incorporates a stereo analog audio in port. For playback, the number of connectors broadens to include all of the aforementioned, also adding SCART, Component and HDMI as well as optical and coaxial SPDIF.
Depending on the quality setting, the 400 GB hard drive of the RDR-HX1010 is able to store between 54 and 685 hours of video, whilst a DVD will hold between 1 and 8 hours.
Other features of the RDR-HX1010 includes a scene-finding algorithm technology by Sony dubbed 'Intelligent Scene Chaptering' to automatically recognize and tag scene changes for subsequent navigation. Also, users can delete individual scenes in a video, and the recorder offers the option of pausing live broadcast TV.
The Sony RDR-HX1010 is now available across Europe, selling in the €1,250 EUR range.
