Due out in the US later this month, the new Oakley Thump 2 audio eyewear bumps its old looks for GASCAN-inspired styling - and storage capacity up to a capacious 1 GB.
Continuing its efforts in the audio eyewear category, Oakley has announced a new version of its tunes-toting Thump sunglasses. Having received a visual makeover, the amount of available memory has been doubled over that of the original Thump to a maximum of 1 GB - although those expecting the Bluetooth capabilities of the
RAZRWIRE to merge with audio playback will be disappointed.
Rendered with the styling of Oakley's GASCAN series, the Thump 2 sports redesigned, dual-joint speaker elbow booms to allow for six directions of movement. Looks and feel aside, the Thump 2 also improves marginally on the audio player capabilities of its predecessor, adding iTunes files in AAC format to its roster of supported audio formats which previously included MP3, WMA and WAV.
To transfer files to the Thump 2, future owners will rely on USB 2.0; once transferred, Oakley claims a play time of up to 6 hours.
With prices ranging from $300 to $450 USD, the Oakley Thump 2 will be available nationwide in the US from October 28. The original Thump, meanwhile, will receive price cuts to $300 USD for the 256 MB model and $350 USD for the 512 MB model, effective October 5.
