Now shipping in the US, LG's LRM-519 media viewer records and plays back media from hither and thither, also sporting Wi-Fi connectivity and a Microsoft electronic program guide.
Offering up a product more capable than most, LG has begun shipping its LRM-519 media viewer in the US, billing the product as creating an entirely new product category. Although to be taken with a pinch of salt, the LRM-519 is indeed a very capable device, combining the recording and playback of media to and from DVDs and an internal hard drive with Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity.
Powered by Microsoft's Windows Media Center Extender platform, the LRM-519 sports a 160 GB hard drive to which users can record up to 90 hours of video from cable, satellite or over-the-air transmissions. For those who need additional storage, the unit also incorporates dual USB 2.0 ports to allow for the adding of USB Mass Storage Device compatible devices - and also includes Ethernet 10/100 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g for inclusion in a home network.
Equipped with the Microsoft Program Guide, users can search up to 14 days of programs by title, keyword, actor, director or category, scheduling recordings at the touch of a button. Any scheduled recording can be configured to record only once or for an entire season of shows, with the solution also providing parental control features. Also, users will be able to pause live TV as well as skip ahead in video recordings in 30-second leaps.
Sporting a Dual Layer DVD drive, the LRM-519 supports MP3 and WMA formats for audio playback, as well as JPEG for photo viewing.
Now available nationwide in the US, the LG LRM-519 Digital Media Recorder has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $600 USD. The Microsoft Program Guide service subscription is available for a $250 USD one-time fee, $100 USD for a one-year subscription, or for $10 USD for a one-month subscription.
