Announcing its new Internet Camera with 3G compatibility, D-Link has brought forward what appears to be the first Internet-enabled surveillance solution to offer live video streaming to 3G compatible handsets. Operating across a Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connection, the camera supports resolutions of up to 640 x 480 pixels with user selectable JPEG or MPEG4 compression rates, streaming video in the 3GPP format to a number of recent 3G handsets.
For the less wireless inclined, a 10/100 Ethernet port is also available, with the camera also supporting more traditional forms for streaming through its compatibility with any Internet Streaming Media Alliance (ISMA) compatible device as well as RealPlayer 10.5 and QuickTime 6.5. Further information concerning the expected availability and pricing of the camera was not available at the time of press.
